KATY, TEXAS was originally a wide open prairie, hunting grounds for the Karankawa Indian tribes where great herds of buffalo and large flocks of ducks, geese and other game birds enjoyed the abundant rich feeding grounds. The main industry was rice farming. Formally incorporated in 1945, Katy is a traditional family community with a small town charm. THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS Township is a 28,000-acre award-winning master planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston. WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE often called West U for short, with an estimated population of 15,676 as of July 2018 and located in the center of Houston, TX. In 2019, 24/7 Wall Street named West University Place America’s best city to live. The city encompasses approximately two square miles of land. The city operates under the Council-Manager form of government. West U Little League established in 1949, is the largest Little League Baseball group in the United Sates with over 1200 players. In 2005, former first lady Barbara Bush threw out the first pitch in honor of the establishment of West U Little League’s Challenger Division which promotes opportunities for mentally and/or physically challenged children to participate in baseball games with the help of “buddies” guiding players through the game.
