The Houston Furniture Bank
Founded in 1992, the Houston Furniture Bank is a nonprofit whose mission is to ”furnish hope and make empty houses homes” for Houston’s needy families, in order to make the road to independent living more manageable and the likelihood of success more probable. By working with 70+ nonprofit partner agencies, the Houston Furniture Bank assists individuals that are at or below the extreme poverty level, those with mental and physical disabilities, single women with children, people recovering from chemical dependencies, and those affected by natural disasters such as Katrina, Rita, and most recently, Ike. Since its inception, the Houston Furniture Bank has served over 80,000 individuals with furniture and other household goods

Teach for America
Teach for America’s mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity. Teach for America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Since inception, 33,000 individuals have participated in Teach for America, impacting the lives of more than 2.5 million Houston students.

YES Prep
YES Prep Public Schools exists to increase the number of low-income Houstonians who graduate from a four-year college prepared to compete in the global marketplace and committed to improving disadvantaged communities. Since YES Prep’s inception in 1998,
100% of seniors have graduated from high school and gained acceptance to four-year colleges and universities. Today, with 11 schools in operation, serving 7,000 students throughout Houston, YES Prep’s results continue to shatter mindsets around the country about what low-income students are capable of achieving.
